With early voting now open for the Presidential Election, the tallies are officially underway for our most anxiety-inducing election to date. I voted on Friday, so in the spirit of promoting democracy, today’s post is dedicated to sharing voting information. As with all my public service posts, I’ll keep this brief so you don’t have to sift through prose for the information you need.
Important Links
First, here’s your go-to site for all things election-related, wherever you live: Voting and elections | USAGov
Here’s the link to voter registration deadlines: Voter registration deadlines | USAGov
If you’re in Virginia like I am, here’s your information: Virginia Dept. of Elections: Home
And if you’re a Norfolk local like me, here you go: Office of Elections | City of Norfolk, Virginia – Official Website. Look for the “Are you Election Ready?” link, which lets you check your registration status, polling place, and more.
Note: if you’re voting early in Norfolk, you’ll be casting your vote at the Norfolk Office of Elections, which is located at 810 Union St, Norfolk, VA, 23510. Remember, this is a separate office from your regular local polling place, so be sure to go here.
Important Election Dates
Here are the dates you need to remember, wherever you are.
- Early voting: September 20-November 2nd
- Absentee ballot: postmarked by November 5th
- Election Day: November 5
Just Go Vote
If this point sounds familiar, you’re right. Back in 2020, I wrote a similar post, but with a lot more venting. Provided we’re still living in a (somewhat) democratic society in 2028, I’ll likely write one then too. While it’s important to vote in every election, this one is especially critical.
The point is, go vote. You already know how high the stakes are. Make your voice heard.
