The Roswell Museum Federal Art Center

Robert Sprague

Robert Sprague served as Director from November 1937 through June 1938. During his first months at the museum, Sprague supervised the completion of the building's interior, which included the construction of furniture, the completion of a stage curtain, and other tasks. After the museum's opening, Sprague regularly submitted newspaper articles and other forms of publicity, and supervised other museum staff. He also began organizing the museum's studio classes, which required finding available space, collecting supplies, and soliciting community interest. An artist by training, Sprague occasionally exhibited his own work in conjunction with FAP exhibitions. He also participated in the museum's education program by providing lectures and gallery talks.
